Jody Williams is available as a consultant. In the past, she has consulted with others on:
1. How to set up an effective alternative sentencing program which reduces recidivism rates and saves money.
2. How to set up a diversion program which is highly successful in sex workers quitting the business before the "typical" bottom.
3. Staff trainings for jails, prisons, treatment programs, detox programs, clinics, outreach programs, attorneys, detectives, etc.,
on how to communicate with sex workers in a constructive manner, as well as guide them into recovery and/or positive decisions.
Also have explained the typical symptoms of "brain washing" most sex trafficking victims, and sex workers with pimps, suffer from
as well as taught effective "deprogramming" techniques. I was certified by the FBI as an "expert witness" in brainwashing in 1995.
4. How to conduct research into sex workers to get the "truth" out of them. So often sex workers will not answer most researchers
honestly for a variety of reasons. This can be frustrating when you are trying to uncover what the problems are so you can help
them. I've helped many researchers get to "truthful" answers.
5. Sex workers in typical drug and/or alcohol programs have an extremely hard time getting "clean and sober". In fact, one study
found that 98% of sex workers relapse at some point within two years of trying to achieve sobriety. This fact caused a funding
problem for some programs as it drove down their numbers of "successful treatments". I've gone into many programs in
other states and countries to identify where the problems were in their programs and outlined to them changes that needed
to be made in order to increase the success rate among sex workers. Programs which implemented my design - showed a
clear increase of almost 80 % among sex workers achieving long term sobriety and abstinence from sex work.
6. Spoke at conventions of organizations like Sexaholics Anonymous, National Council on Sexual Addiction, Sex Addicts
Anonymous, California Womens Commission, National Council on Alcoholism, to explain how sex workers are not "sex addicts"
or just using sex work to support a drug/alcohol habit, and why their recovery program has to be different from other addictions.
7. Served as an "expert witness" in trials prosecuting sex traffickers and pimps in their methods, and how often victims not only
don't act always like a victim or "why they stay" and even how they might be acting like being in sex work was their decision,
when in fact it was not really an act of free choice, but in fact expert brainwashing and programming by the predators.
8. Consulted with many families on how to rescue their loved one from a sex trafficker or pimp situation where they were being
held against their will, as well as how to convince them to leave sex work when they appear to be protesting they want to do it.
9. Done numerous media interviews on how the sex industry has changed, sex trafficking, the sex industry, sex workers, etc.
10. Advised many survivors in how to set up recovery meetings in their home town - some of which are still running after 18 years.
11. Spoken with writers, screen writers, producers, actors, on the sex industry to help their creative process be truthfully accurate.
12. Advised District Attorneys in how to obtain more convictions against sex traffickers/pimps as well as better ways to treat
sex workers to reduce repeat offenses.
13. Advised investigators more effective means to arrest and convict sex traffickers and pimps.
14. I have been asked to come into jails, prisons and treatment programs where they were having a high rate of physical
violence against staff by sex workers into how to reduce the problem. In programs that implemented my advice -
violence against staff was completely eliminated as long as methods were followed.
15. Trained therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, etc., in how to work with sex workers who are highly addictive,
self-destructive and seemingly resistant to treatment in how to help them reduce and/or recover from these behaviors.
For a few years when I lived in California, I was a member of CADCEP and offered CEU's for these workshops.
16. Consulted with Executive Directors of programs designed to specifically help sex workers recover in how to construct
a highly effective program. Trained staff hired for these programs and maintained a follow up relationship with the
residents by bringing in weekly Prostitutes Anonymous meetings.
17. Trained domestic violence program staff in more appropriate ways to treat and communicate with abused sex workers.
18. Consulted with battered womens programs in how to be more effective in helping sex workers who are victims of violence.
19. Consulted with universities and various programs in how to set up awareness programs such as HIV awareness,
needle exchange programs, harm reduction awareness, street outreach into what local resources are available
to them to help them quit sex work.
20. Offered consultations with researchers into how the mind of a "john" and "pimp" or "trafficker" works, as well as
advised diversion programs into how to reduce demand and recidivism rates of men arrested for solicitation.
21. Consulted with the FBI and police into how modern sex trafficking operates in order that they might be able to
rescue more victims.
22. Consulted with ad agencies and copywriters into how to design effective ad campaigns to reach sex workers and
sex trafficking victims.
23. Given lectures to university and college students interested in working with sex workers into what is really needed to
help them, and how to offer the help in a manner where it is effective and accepted.
24. I have been on the advisory board of the California Womens Commission, the Lehigh County Program for Female
Offenders and the Nevada Coalition Against Sexual Trafficking.
25. I founded www.pawso.com and www.tapsdirectory.org.
26. I served as an "informal advisor" to Terri Miller, the Director of ATLAS in Las Vegas, during the year the program ran.
I started in the sex industry in 1979 and quit in 1985. I formed Prostitutes Anonymous in 1987 and Trafficking & Prostitution Services in 2006. Over the years, I have spoken to sex workers all over the world, both male and female, and of ages from eight years old to 80 years old. Our hot line has been kept on pretty much 365 days since we started the first meeting. Between phone calls, letters, and personal meetings - I estimate I have spoken to approximately 250,000 sex workers. I've also been witness to the history of many programs and projects related to sex workers - and have seen for myself which ones have worked and which ones have gone under.
I am available for consultation by telephone, email, or in person. I can come to where you are if you can't come to me (I'm in Tonopah, Nevada at the moment). The price I charge varies - especially according to whether I have to incur travel expenses or not. If you want a consultation about anything - just call me and we will work something out. In most cases, any cost or fees would be tax deductible.
